In Camp:
Cora didn't think much of Zephos's orders to only leave camp with three other wolves. She didn't need anyone else. She could take care of herself, no problem. After all, she'd easily slaughtered a Maotu cat single-handedly. She strode out of camp, not caring if anyone saw her. They should all be ashamed that they couldn't take care of themselves.
Dark Forest:
Cora had been walking around for a while, simply praising herself for being the bravest, strongest wolf in the pack. She considered it pathetic that they couldn't protect themselves.
A large figure ambled through the forest. He knew that he was in the correct territory, but he hadn't yet come across any wolves. He wondered where the wolf he searched for was.
He was distracted from his goal at the present. He was still thinking about his earlier encounter with a white she-wolf on the beach.
Amurheart's face was barely two inches away from the she-wolf's face. "Do you know of a large gray wolf with a red 'x' on her shoulder?" he growled.
Snowfall's ice-blue eyes were wide with fear as the massive cat held her down. She opened her jaws to say, "no," but then closed them. A large gray wolf with a red "x" on her shoulder? Where had she heard of such a wolf before? After a few moments, it hit her. Her mother had told her of a wolf in her pack who was always bragging about killing one of the Kavari single handedly in the Wraith War. This wolf had been Frostedfur's rival....
"Do you?" the Kavari demanded.
"I-I, yes, I think so.... My mother told me of a large gray she-wolf in her pack, with a red 'x' on her shoulder.... She said she always b-bragged ab-b-bout killing a Maotu in the Wraith War.... She s-said that she always went on about how it was one of the prettier Maotu cats, with golden fur and black spots... and golden eyes that begged for mercy just before she k-killed her," she stammered.
The Kavari's light blue eyes lost their fierceness for a moment, and revealed his pain, his sorrow....
He quickly caught himself and managed to destroy his expression of sadness. He regained his menacing look... but the wolf had already seen the pain in his eyes.
"Wh-who was s-she?" she asked. Perhaps this cat had been his love.
"My sister," Amurheart growled. "Where can I find this wolf?"
"I...." Snowfall paused before answering. Should she tell him? She would be betraying her own kind....
Amurheart had no time for this. He got off of the she-wolf, and noticed a little black pup cowering nearby. He padded over to it, and shoved it into the sand, so that it was laying on its back. He placed his paw over the pup so that his claws were on its throat.
"Answer the question or the pup dies," he said.
"Her name is Cora, and she's in the Senya pack! They're they ones with the blue lightning bolt tattoos," Snowfall blurted out. She pointed her tail in the direction of the Senya territory. "Please, don't hurt him!"
Amurheart didn't see why he shouldn't. These wolves had driven the Kavari out of their rightful home. Why shouldn't he kill the whelp under his paw? Amurheart stared into the pup's violet eyes. After a long moment, he lifted his paw off of him.
"Take your pup and get out of here. You'd best watch yourself -- the next Kavari you meet isn't going to let you go," he warned, staring at the ground.
The she-wolf nervously approached the Maotu, picked the pup up by the scruff of his neck, and fled.
Suddenly, the Maotu caught a scent, and snapped back to the present. He smelled wolf.... He immediately dropped, so that he was hidden by the undergrowth. His nephew, who was behind him, did the the same. The two watched, and soon spotted the wolf he'd been searching for. She strutted confidently through the forest, completely alone. Maybe this would be easier than he thought. He then noticed that she was large, very muscular, and looked quite tough. Well, I've got Shade.... We can take her, he thought.
The large cat raised his tail a bit, signaling to Shade that they would be attacking in a moment. Suddenly, the large cat sprang from the shadows, landing on the wolf. She had been totally oblivious to the fact that they were there. She fell the the ground under the weight of the cat.
Shade charged out of the undergrowth after his uncle, ready to help kidnap the wolf that murdered his mother.
Cora tried to get the cat off of her, but he was heavy and strong.
Amurheart slashed the wolf with his claws, creating several gashes in her shoulder. He took her foreleg in his mouth, placed a paw on it, and pulled with his mouth. He pushed with his paw, so that part of her leg was being pulled, while the other was being pushed. There was a loud crack, and he knew that it was broken. The wolf shrieked, and tried to kick him, but Shade bit down on her hind leg. He copied his uncle. He had some difficulty, so Amurheart pressed down with his paw. The two of them broke her hind leg. She shrieked again.
Soon, all four of the wolf's legs were broken. She was immobile. However, Amurheart didn't want to alert any wolves that might be nearby. Her howls of pain were loud, and would surely be heard by someone.
The Kavari raised his right fore paw, and brought it down hard on her head. The she-wolf was unconscious now.
His breathing was quicker than usual. "Good job," he said quietly to his nephew.
"Thanks," Shade said.
"Okay, let's get her out of here," Amurheart said. He crouched down, and Shade dragged the wolf onto his uncle's back. The two stalked off into the forest, carrying their prisoner back to the Tribe. Amurheart was eager to torture this wolf.
