Sorrelkill let go of Conderflame, confused. Did I hurt him to much? He wondered. Unbelieving, he took his paws away from his leader and waited, tense.

Feeling Sorrelkill's grip loosen, Cinderflame leaped to his feet immediately. He grabbed the Trainee and pinned him to the ground. "Good try," the leader growled. Hoping that Sorrelkill wasn't feeling stupid, he added, "Kavari with way more experience than you have been fooled by that trick."

Sorrelkill yowled in surprise when the mass of sinewy muscle came to life under his paws. The next moment, he was looking up at his leader. "I never saw that coming." he said with a sheepish grin.

Cinderflame purred in amusement. "That's sort of the point." He looked down and shuffled his paws, not willing to believe that he was actually saying what came out of his mouth next. "You did really well. I was helpless for a moment there."

Sorrelkill was stunned for a second by his leader's compliment, then his face broke into a big grin. "Really? Thanks!" He purred, puffing up his chest proudly.

Cinderfalme grinned at Sorrelkill. This one will be a great fighter someday. He licked his paw idly, knocking off some of the coated sand. Hmm... I wonder... He looked at the younger Kavari, bicolored eyes gleaming. "What do you think we should do next?"

Sorrelkill stopped looking pround and suddenly looked startled. "You're asking me?" he said. Then he thought. "Hmm... maybe we could try hunting?" he flicked his ears to indicate a herd of nearby gemsbok.

Cinderflame dipped his head. "Okay." With a wave of his tail, he began to sneak towards the herd. His keen eyes soon picked out a gemsbok that was limping, with an ugly wound on its hind leg. "That one." he meowed softly. The dark Kavari began to sneak closer, his paws whispering over the sands.

Sorrelkill's eyes snapped to the gemsbok that Cinderflame pointed out. Slowly crouching down, he cut around the other side of the herd, his paws making no sound on the sand. Using the sparse brush for cover, he snuck closer to the gemsbok, concentrating on keeping his head and shoulders low. Waiting for his leader's command, he waited behind a nearby bush, only 20 meters from the unsespecting animal.

The wounded gemsbok was falling farther behind, and Cinderflame purred almost inaudibly. He swept his tail up, then paused. I hope Sorrelkill knows the signals... But there was no time to worry about that now. His thin black tail swept down, and the leader charged forwards. His paws sent up a spray of sand as he raced towards the unsuspecting prey.

Sorrelkill caught Cinderflame's signal and he leaped, charging at the gemsbok from the other side. The startled animal sent up a cry, and the whole herd started to stampede. But the wounded gemsbok couldn't keep up, and Sorrelkill was on it in seconds, clawing at it's haunches.

Cinderflame leaped onto the gemsbok's back, grasping its sides with long claws. He could feel it beginning to stumble as Sorrelkill clawed at its haunches. The leader growled in triumph and sank his fangs into the animal's spine, killing it. He jumped clear as the gemsbok fell, and landed with an elegant twist. It never had a chance!

Sorrelkill still had his claws and teeth imbedded in the gemsbok's flank as the dying animal fell to the ground. Letting go, the young trainee purred in satisfaction, saying "That was cool!" Sniffing the dead animal, he asked "Should we drag it back to camp?"

Cinderflame nodded, fastidiously licking the blood from his paws. Crimson drops spattered across the sand in an eerie constellation. "Yes, we should," he meowed, bending to grab the limp prey's leg in his teeth. He looked up suddenly, as a thought struck him. "You were great, Sorrelkill."

Sorrelkill beamed with pride. "Thanks, Cinderflame!" he purred. He also bend his head to pick up a limb of the dead gemsbok and started to tug it back to camp. More food for the tribe... he thought.
