Ok, here's a little info about my book and about characters and whatever else. I recommend you read this before getting started.
In the forest, there are two dominant species: Dire Wolves and a breed of cat called Moutu (Moutu is a made up species; therefore, it is (c) to me :3 ).
Dire Wolves are a breed of wolves that was thought to be extinct many years ago (they are extinct, but not in my book. >.<). They are the largest breed of wolves, being 3.5-4 feet at the shoulder. They can weigh anywhere from 150 to 300 pounds. Their fur is usually a mix of colors, but they have found ways to dye their fur with plants, so their pelts can be quite colorful. But regular fur color can be anywhere from black to brown to red, and even blue.
The Maotu are a rare race of cats that have mixed traits from both modern day and Ice Age. They are around 4 feet tall at the shoulder, and they can weigh anywhere from 200-350 pounds. All of the Maotu have semi-long saber fangs that are about 3-5 inches long. They either have long, cougar-ish tails or short tails, like a bobcat. Their coloration can be like tigers, cougars, jaguars, or any other wildcat you can think of. But, they don't dye their fur like the Dire Wolves.
There are two different packs of Dire Wolves in the forest. The first pack of wolves is called the Kanaran Pack. They are a proud, but not arrogant, group of wolves. They have lived and prospered in the major part of the forest for decades.
The second pack of wolves is called the Senya Pack. These wolves are generally swifter and slimmer. The Senyas are more reclusive then the Kanarans, and try to keep out of their way. The Senyas also use different, more ninja-esque fighting moves.
There was only one tribe of Maotu cats in the forest, and they are called the Kavari. The Kavari are the most fierce and unpredictable group that lived in the forest. Before they were chased out of the forest, they had many border disputes with the Kanarans. Finally, after the Kavari launched an attack on the Kanarans that cost them quite a few of their numbers, the Kanarans came to their camp at night and chased the Kavari into the desert.
Some customs of the different packs:
Kanarans ~
One of the Kanaran customs is about tattoos. The Kanarans are only allowed to get their tattoos once they have graduated from trainees. Usually, tattoos are only applied to the face, but tattoos can be anywhere.
Another custom is that the pack goes hunting together once a moon. Every month, the pack goes out for a communal hunt, except for the pups and elders.
Senyas ~
The customs are pretty much the same for the Senyas as it is for the Kanarans. The only thing different is that the Senyas always have to get a blue lightning bolt tattoo going horizontally under their eye.
Kavari ~
An idea by cinder: When a Trainee is ready to become a fighter, they leave the camp and wander the desert. They are not allowed to return until they have killed some type of prey, then they must bring it back to the camp so that the others can eat it. Then they are proclaimed to be a true fighter.
Thanks cinder!
Here is some info about my book. Since this site is set a year after the end of my book, I need to fill you in on some things. :3
This is a very undetailed synopsis, but it gives you the idea.
The book starts out more than a decade after the Kavari were chased out of the forest. The war with the Kavari was lost to time; no one even knew about the war, except for the Kanaran elder Starstep.
The book starts out in the point of view of the main character, Raze. He and his friends Ty and Icefall are all young fighters of the Kanaran Pack. Then, one day, one of the patrols finds one of their pack members dead, killed by some giant creature. The mysterious killing keep happening more and more often, and the Kanarans grow to fear their own territory. The creatures behind the killing they call Wraiths. Then never go out of camp unless they're in groups of three or more.
Then, Ty gets attacked. Raze and Icefall find him, and they bring him back to camp. He is still alive, but it takes him days to recover to the point where he can talk. He tells Auna, the pack alpha, and his two friends what happened. He said that he was attacked by giant cats. After he tells his whole story, Auna makes the decision to tell the whole Pack. She does so, and Starstep, the oldest member of the Kanaran pack, also gets up and tells her story. She tells the whole pack about how there was a war, and how the Kanarans ruthlessly killed the Kavari and chased them out of the forest.
The next day, Auna takes a patrol to contact the Wraiths, which they believe are th Kavari. They do so, and the Kavari force Auna to consent to a fight.
Then, Raze and the pack beta, Bandit, are sent to contact the Senya Pack. They go to Senya territory, and talk with Blade, the Senya alpha. While there, Raze meets and falls in love with the young fighter Natasha, the future beta of the Senya pack. The Senyas agree to battle the Kavari, and with that the Kanarans return to their own territory.
The next day, Raze, Icefall, and the fully recovered Ty are sent to recruit loners for the fight. The three fighters run through the forest, and recruit a good number of loners.
In two days time, the Kanarans, Senyas, and loners meet at the Meadows, the designated spot for battle. They wait for the Kavari to arrive, and soon enough, they are at the other end of the field. The Kavari ask them once more if they want to surrender. Then say no, and the fight begins..........
Of course, the Kanarans beat the Kavari and once again the angry Maotu cats are forced back to the desert. Then, the different packs and the loners return to their territories, no longer united.
